Hair trends from the Golden Globes and Goody

On Monday, I blogged about my team's favourite Golden Globe Award dresses (and one suit thanks to Andre!). Of course, the hairstyles on the red carpet were amazing, too -- so much volume, shine and accessorizing. And the best part? Thanks to Goody, you can recreate these styles at home! Here are a few of my favourite hairstyles from the night + the Goody goods that will help you get the look.

It's easy to give your hair a volume boost like Scarlett's! To learn how, click here and follow steps 1 and 2. And for just the right amount of sparkle, turn to the Goody LUXE line of hair accessories. Here are three of my favourites:

For a French twist like Natalie’s, the Goody Simple Styles Modern Updo Pin is all you need. Just follow these instructions:

TV at its best!

I've talked about At My Best before on this blog so you know how much I love this program! It was covered by CHCH News on Wednesday January 5:

At My Best (www.atmybest.ca) is a national school-based children's wellness program developed by AstraZeneca Canada and Physical and Health Education Canada that inspires and motivates children to make healthy choices. A CHCH News reporter, Maria Hayes, came out to St. Michael Catholic Elementary School in Hamilton to see the At My Best program in action. She interviewed Rose Crowther from the program's founding partner AstraZeneca Canada; Carol Scaini, part of At My Best's writing team; Karen Moyer, vice principal of the school, as well as a number of grade one students. The students performed At My Best's "ABC Dance" and "Alphabet Motion." So adorable and so inspiring, don't you think?

Our Golden Globe Fashion Picks

The Golden Globes were on last night and the fashion, as always, was my favourite part. Here are the best looks of the evening, according to NKPR.

Andrea: Halle Berry's Nina Ricci gown. Sexy. Elegant. Alluring.

Emily: Kyra Sedgwick. The orange colour was incredible and totally unique.

Aimee: Claire Danes in the highlighter pink Calvin Klein number. Working out upper body tonight!

Lisa: Mila Kunis. Love the colour, love the cutout at the back.

Katy: Scarlett Johansson. Her dress was the epitome of femininity: sparkly and chic!

Rebecca: Mila Kunis and Catherine Zeta Jones. Loved the green.

Marissa: January Jones. High volume sexy. Yet still tasteful.

Kristin: Natalie Portman. The bright red rose in the middle of the dress was classy and quirky!

Kaley: Annie Hathaway is perfection, thank you Zoe camp.

Sarah: Olivia Wilde. So sparkly and glam!

Jenna: Mila Kunis. It was a stunning colour but so whimsical, too!

André: Naya Rivera. I appreciate the simplicity of it and it complements the curves of her body. Seems like it was made just for her. I also loved Robert Pattinson's suit. It's spotless.

Bunmi: Sandra Bullock's bangs. She's so lovely. I also think that Jane Krakowski looks radiant and stylish! But I hated that everyone looks like they are packed into a cheap reception hall. What's with that carpet!?

NKPR Weekend Wrap Up!

Unlike many people, I actually enjoy Monday mornings because I love finding out what everyone got up to on the weekend. Since I’m out of the office today, though, I missed all the catching up! So I sent an e-survey around the office — what exciting and boring things did you do this weekend? — and now I’m up to speed! Here’s what my staff was doing on their days off:

Kristin
Exciting: I went to Ikea to buy new furniture!
Boring: I assembled the furniture from Ikea.

Sarah
Exciting: I moved!!!
Boring: I waited around for the cable guy.

Nicole
Exciting: Listened to great jazz Sunday night at The Emmet Ray (bar on College and Ossington)
Boring: In bed by 11 pm on Saturday with a bout of winter inertia!!

Andrea
Exciting: I saw Blue Valentine. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling's performances are incredible. Claustrophobic. Depressing. Wonderful.
Boring: The woman next to me in the movie. She kept asking me stupid questions the whole time. So annoying.

Jenna
Exciting: Took my dog for a long walk and played in the snow!!!
Boring: Went to see Little Fockers. This movie wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be, but it certainly wasn't epic.

Marissa
Exciting: Ate yummy coconut shrimp and sweet potato fries at The Rushton.
Boring: Unpacked from my trip/reorganized my closet.

Lisa
Exciting: I got to spend all day Sunday doing whatever I wanted (TV watching, drinks with friends) because I didn't have to study for my GMAT anymore!
Boring: Wrote my GMAT.

Aimee
Exciting: Celebrated an old friend's birthday over several glasses of red wine.
Boring: Was in bed and asleep at 9 p.m. on Sunday night because of the previous night's celebrations.

Emily
Exciting: I went to Costco for the first time!
Boring: See above.

Rebecca
Exciting: I tried my very first yoga class.
Boring: I watched the movie The House Bunny.

Bunmi
Exciting: I continued to feed my costume drama mini-series obsession and I started watching Downton Abbey.
Boring: Making a chocolate chip banana loaf that exploded in my oven.

As for me
Exciting: Eating my way through Paris, France (croissants and desserts) and shopping at John Richmond.
Far less exciting: Gaining weight from being in Paris.

Pre-Paris shopping

I have one more sleep until I leave for Paris and I'm so excited! I did something in preparation for my trip that some of you may find surprising: I went shopping for Paris but not in Paris. Here’s what I bought. In dresses, I picked up two from Miu Miu, one from Jil Sander and a sweater dress from Pringle of Scotland, all in black of course. For jackets, I chose an Elizabeth and James overcoat and a gorgeous piece with leather sleeves from The Row. The boxing day (week? month?) sales were amazing on Net-a-Porter and Shopbop so I couldn’t resist. I also bought a super cute cap from Chanel and some amazing Fendi boots. See?

Can’t you picture me walking up the Champs-Élysées in this outfit? (I also have some Converse sneakers that I’ll be taking with me just in case, but I really am determined to do the entire trip in heels.)

It may seem sort of backwards to do so much shopping before I get to one of the shopping capitals of the world, but it is Paris, after all. You have to step it up fashion-wise or I’m pretty sure they don’t let you in the country. ☺

I’ll be tweeting while I’m away, of course, so follow me here for an inside peek at my adventure in the City of Lights. And tweet me your suggestions for things to see and do—restaurants, unique sights and, of course, shopping!

The last office potluck of 2010

The office has been very busy this post-Christmas week but we still all managed to make time for a potluck lunch yesterday. Cupcakes, sushi, nachos, fruit, salads, sparkling apple cider... We even had a roaring fire (well, sort of)! Aside from celebrating 2011, we all got together to say happy birthday to Bunmi and Kaley who -- good sports that they are -- even let us dress them up a bit. Can you spot Kaley wearing her pink masquerade mask as a headband? :) What can I say? My staff loves costumes!

While 2010 has been an incredible year at NKPR, I am so excited about 2011! We have some really creative initiatives coming up, so keep checking in to the blog and follow me on Twitter for all the latest news!

Have a wonderful New Year's Eve everyone!
